VR Tracker Wrist Strap
BRIEF:
From April to May 2022, I worked with Tangible Interaction to design a wristband to secure a VR sensor for a project by XR Immersive Tech. Key design considerations were ease of donning and doffing, sizing and ergonomics, comfort and feel, security of the device while in motion, and longevity in a high-use environment.
ROLES:
I was contracted to create concepts and prototypes, advise on materials, make a techpack for the soft components, and work with the inhouse designers on the hard components.
Process
The process began with market and material research and explorations of similar products in other areas such as braces and compression products. I began ideating with quick sketches and rough paper prototypes which I narrowed down into four concepts which were presented back to the team at Tangible for feedback. We chose a direction to move forwards with prototyping that was simple while still looking unique.
Strap should provide stability to the sensor and be comfortable to wear
Strap must be easy and quick to don/doff
Sensor should be easily detachable
Must fit both children and adults
Sensor should sit about 4” from the wrist to be most effective
Throughout the process I made four full prototypes, each building on the last while incorporating user testing and client feedback.
